The economic and financial crime commission invented under the leadership of former president Olusegun Obasanjo as an axe meant for corrupt officials is today a willing tool in the hands of the power
that be.
The institution charges against former public office holders of the past administration is nothing but a ploy and a political gimmick that will facilitate instability in the country's political sphere.
The charges against this individuals who belong to the opposition political party by the EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu will only aid one party system in Nigeria which is not healthy for our fledgling democracy.
Do not get me wrong, I do not sympathise with corrupt leaders because corruption is one of the greatest problems in Nigeria and as such, the determination to fight the disease is a welcome development but not when the fight against it has become a political tool use by the ruling party to intimidate the opposition party members into toying their desired path.
It is very pathetic to have learnt that Nigeria as widely publicized by the APC regime to be fighting corruption is not even recognized both at home and in the international community. As the British prime minister had rightly said that, "Nigeria is fantastically corrupt."
Some may defer on the prime minister opinion but the question is how true stands the president backers when 97% of individuals or firm belonged to the opposition party. Why would a sitting governor account be friezed without a court order? Why would the EFCC refused to investigate the allegation of corruption instituted against the duo of Rotimi Amaechi and Babatunde Fashola despite the latter been tagged as the APC campaign ATM machine? Why no action has been taken to ascertain the level or no level of the President's wife in the Harliburton scandal? isn't it a csae to ponder?
In view of this development, it's claim to be fighting corruption lacks sincerity and moral justification, which have proven it is no longer an axe meant for corrupt individuals but a political tool, used by the powers that be to cow perceived political opponent.
